No Disguise' for Carvey's emotions
Dana Carvey, who's returning to the limelight with his new
movie, "The Master of Disguise," tells tonight's "PrimeTime
Thursday" (10 p.m./Ch. 7) that he's appalled at how people
react to news that he's had heart problems in the past
(including an angioplasty and bypass surgery).
"What has shattered me a little bit is people thinking
something's wrong with me," he says. "You'll see guys,
400-pound guys with a Philly cheese steak and a cigarette
going, Mr. Carvey, I'm worried about your heart!"
Chazz gets Creative in Showtime flick
Oscar nominee Chazz Palminteri ("Bullets Over Broadway," "A
Bronx Tale") marks his directorial debut tonight by
co-hosting a screening of his latest movie, Showtime's
"Women vs. Men," at the Paramount screening room with
Showtime chairman/CEO Matt Blank and William Baldwin who,
like Palminteri, are members of the Creative Coalition.
Stars expected to attend include Caroline Rhea, Steven Van
Zandt, Tom Fontana and Court TV's Catherine Crier.
"Women vs. Men," airing Aug. 4 on Showtime, is a comedy that
explores the changes that occur between men and women in a
long-term marriage. The movie's stars include Joe Mantegna,
Glenne Headly, Christine Lahti, Robert Pastorelli and
Jennifer Coolidge. It was executive-produced by Ed Zwick,
Marshall Herskovitz and Rick Solomon.
CSI: Miami' stars curling up in South Beach
Cast members of the upcoming "CSI" spinoff, "CSI: Miami" -
including Khandi Alexander ("ER," "NewsRadio"), Adam
Rodriguez (ex-"Roswell") and Emily Procter (a frequent guest
star on "West Wing") - have been working out on location at
the David Barton Gym in the Delano Hotel in South Beach.
All of the stars have been doing curling and cardio workouts
in the Barton gym on downtime from the series, which debuts
this fall with stars David Caruso and Amy Brenneman. E!'s
Brooke Burke ("Wild On") was also spotted in the gym
recently with her teenage son.
Moore the merrier? Not so, says study
TV Guide has gotten its hands on a confidential study
implying that many of the viewers abandoning CBS' "The Young
and the Restless" - the soap lost nearly 1 million
households between February and April of this year - are
African-Americans who tuned out after Shemar Moore left to
star in The WB's new series, "Birds of Prey."
CBS Daytime chief Lucy Johnson, however, pooh-poohs that
theory. "There is no empirical evidence that Shemar's exit
caused the downfall," she tells TV Guide. "It's not like we
talked to 10,000 African-American women and they all said
that [was the case]. Nielsen does not monitor why viewers
stop watching."
The story appears in the Aug. 3 issue of TV Guide, hitting
newsstands Monday.
