Should I
Build My Own Website?
If you need a website, you
have two choices. You can either try to design it yourself, or
you can hire someone to develop it for you.
The main reason why someone
would want to build their own website is obvious: to save
money. By designing your own site, you can save yourself
hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
But there are also major drawbacks to trying to design your
own site. When you hire a professional design firm, you will
benefit from:
Professional looking
graphics
A site optimized to rank
well on Google
Professionally written text
Use of great photos
Expert internet promotion
Of course, that's assuming
that you find the right design firm to handle your project.
Most companies can create a beautiful looking site. But only a
small percentage of web design companies have concrete
experience in getting sites to rank well on Google. If you
aren't picking up new business from a site, it's a
waste of money, no matter how nice it looks.
So what should you do? Your best bet is to research different
website designers, and ask for examples of how they were able
to get their clients to show up at the top of Google for their
target keywords. If you try to design the site yourself, but
don't have experience with search engine optimization, you can end up losing business and cash.
Web design work isn't free, and it isn't always inexpensive.
But you have to think about the long-term rewards that you
will get from a professional site. It may cost you some money
at first, but you could also earn a great deal of money down
the road. So at least shop around for a good web design firm
before you decide to build your own site.
